The burial of an 8-9-year-old boy, associated with the Bronze Age Catacomb Culture (3d millennium BC), was excavated by S.A. Loktyushev in 1928. The boy’s physical type is Caucasoid, showing sharply profiled face and protruding nose. The artificial deformation is of the fronto-parietal type, achieved by applying planks to the child’s forehead and occiput and fastening them with a tight bandage. Eventually both the forehead and the occiput flattened. The custom was rather widely practiced by the Catacomb people.
