Annotation
The fishing line is made from the stems of kelp (Macrocystis Pyrifera) with a sinker and hooks. To prepare a fishing line they soak the kelp in fresh water and dry it in the sun or in the smoke from a campfire. Fishing line which is dried over a campfire has a dark color. Fishing gear with hooks of this type was used to catch cod.
