Annotation
Spears of this same type were used by the Kodiak Alutiit. Heirmonk Gedeon wrote about their spears: “The shaft of a spear was three quarters of (an arshin (Russian measure of 28 inches)—S. Korsun.) Or longer, with a tip made from caribou horn, with three notches (with three notches. –S.Korsun.) and with stone or copper tips (edges.—S.Korsun.) of one and one half vershoks in length (a vershok is 1 3/4 inches or 4.4 centimeters)” (Gedeon 1994: 61).
