Annotation
“The islanders make and decorate wooden bowls, dishes in some way or another. They find rocks for paints in various places on the island or get them from the mainland of America by trading, then burn them, crush them and dilute the sediment with fish roe or blood; or sometimes with water, so that it is not too thick” (Davydov 1812: 104).
