This velvet length was among the presents that one of the last emirs of Bukhara gave to the Romanovs family. These presents included the finest samples produced by different silk-weaving production centers of the emirate.
Velvet was produced using a unique old technique called ikat. Such fabrics are semi-silk: silk and cotton threads were used to weave them. Such velvet fabrics impress with their luxury, color gamma and an infinite number of decorative patterns. Weavers’ art was hereditary and secret techniques and patterns were passed from generation to generation.
