Annotation
Male folk costume The national dress of the Lithuanians is modest, without elaborate ornamentationbut their peculiar silhouette and decorative designs distinguish them from other national costume. The shirt is made of thin white linen, its cut is quite simple. The cuffs only are adorned with a picked pattern called in Lithuanian “rinktis rastas”. The bottom part of the trouser legs is taken in, narrowed and sewn in to ankle tapes which are tied up that it should be easier to tuck the trousers into the stockings. The stockings are white or light grey. At the top part they are finished off by a broad woven band. The trousers are girdled with a broad decorative waist-band in a picked pattern (“rinktis rastas”). The tie consists of a narrow band of tissue with a modest picked pattern (“rinktine juostele”). The sleeveless jacket is made with a broad V-neck, without any lapels and without a collar. The front, the neck, and the sleeve ends are adorned with black home-spun. The straw hat is adorned with a decorative twist made of coloured thread. The ends of the twist are fringed.
