Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera) RAS holds over one thousand articles of Kazakh culture. Among them items specific for cattle breeding mode of life, means of transportation, arms, decorations, articles and accessories of traditional costumes, unique samples of home crafts, yourts and models, items of interior, musical instruments. History of collections is diverse: items were granted, bought from private persons or brought from Museum’s expeditions. Collections gathering is ongoing, and nowadays unique samples of traditional and modern Kazakh culture are handed over to the Museum. Museum holdings on Kazakh culture are being enriched over several centuries. It is merit of several generations of Russian researchers, who gathered and described collections. History of Kazakh collections is important aspect of many-dimensional process of Russia and Kazakhstan relations development.
